Work Experience:

East Coast Instruments

IT Specialist
Columbia, SC
May 2017-present

As the IT Specialist for East Coast Instruments, a small family business located in Columbia, SC, I advised the business owner on various aspects of technology used in the business. As the business relies on an eBay storefront, keeping the infrastructure running is a top priority. My duties included:

  • Performing system setup
  • Maintaining existing systems
  • Upgrading systems to ensure security
  • Performing repairs on broken systems
  • Providing recommendations for new equipment and systems

While working at East Coast Instruments, I performed a migration to Windows 10 over the course of 2019, as machines used in the business were still running Windows 7. This migration included a recommendation for a laptop for the owner. As the duties performed are fairly light, I recommended purchasing an off-lease Dell Latitude off eBay and installing an SSD and memory upgrade I already had in order to save money. I also migrated the owners' desktop PC to Windows 10, including the installation of an SSD to help the computer run faster than the Windows 7 installation. I kept the old hard drive in the machine so the owner could access files off the Windows 7 drive from Windows 10, and configured the Windows Boot Manager so the owner could easily choose to boot into Windows 7 if he ever needed to.

Irmo High School

Senior Intern for Digital Integration Specialist
September 2016-May 2017

During my time working as a senior intern for the Digital Integration Specialist at Irmo High School, I prepared a series of documents that explain to students and teachers how to use various services provided by the school. These include, but are not limited to:

  • Using annotation capabilities in Google Classroom to complete assignments
  • Viewing grades through PowerSchool Student Portal
  • Video calling through Google Hangouts
  • Basic troubleshooting of school computers

Major Projects

Flight Stick Conversion: February 2020

I designed a PCB to connect the inputs from a CH Products Virtual Pilot Pro to an Arduino Leonardo, so the flight stick can be connected to any modern PC with full functionality. The source code for the Arduino, as well as the Eagle files used to create the PCB, are available on my GitHub profile.

USurvive: August 2020-April 2021

Myself, along with four other students, developed a student planner application in C# and WPF for our Capstone Project at UofSC. The application keeps track of the student's current classes, assignments, and upcoming exams. In addition, the program also allows users to input their grades, to have everything in one convenient location. More information is available on the Code Samples page.

Character LCD Controller: December 2017

A small Java program designed to allow users to control a small character LCD using a Raspberry Pi through a GUI interface. More information is available on the Code Samples page.

Other Projects

  • Built a home network consisting of:
    • Multiple computers connected over Ethernet in multiple rooms
    • Two wireless access points, and a wireless range extender for a room at the edge of the house
    • Multicast IPTV hardware for AT&T U-Verse
  • Worked on open-source software:
    • NAPS2
    • GNOME Robots (source obtained through APT/other package manager)
  • Wrote a short manual explaining the basic usage of the GNOME desktop environment for ENGL 462. While the GNOME desktop does have documentation, the existing documentation is rather poor, and requires knowledge in using the Internet to use. This documentation was designed to be used by somebody unfamiliar with using a computer, and as such contains all information that may be needed to convey basic computer skills. The documentation is designed to be printed out and bound like a book, so some design decisions may seem strange when viewed as a PDF. View it here.
Extracurricular Activities

Boy Scouts Troop 410: 2010-2018

  • Twice elected Senior Patrol Leader
  • Earned the rank of Eagle Scout in December 2016.

FIRST Robotics Team 1293: Fall 2013-May 2016

  • Built several parts for robots to help maintain reliability during a match
  • Assisted in planning an off-season tournament during the Fall of 2013 and 2014
